Her accomplice, a 47-year-old Malaysian national named Seng Hock Ling, was handed a sentence of 4 years and 11 months.

Qian's illicit journey began as early as 2012, with Chinese authorities already scrutinizing her involvement in less ambitious fraudulent schemes within the Anhui and Jilin provinces. However, her criminal enterprise truly escalated in 2014 with the launch of the 'Blue Sky' investment scheme.
Promises of Riches, Realities of Ruin

The tragic reality for over 128,000 people was the loss of their life savings. From China to the UK: A Fugitive's Flight
In July 2017, Qian fled China, embarking on a clandestine journey that eventually led her to the United Kingdom. Her escape route involved a motor-powered bike to Myanmar, followed by a clandestine entry into the UK under the assumed identity of Yadi Zhang, utilizing forged documents. Upon arrival, she set her sights on laundering her ill-gotten gains, primarily through real estate acquisitions. Her accomplice, Seng Hock Ling, played a crucial role in these attempts to legitimize the illicit funds.
The British Investigation and the Bitcoin Hoard
The couple's ambitions took a significant turn in 2018 when they attempted to purchase property valued at a staggering £24 million. This audacious move alerted British law enforcement, triggering an investigation. During raids on the rented property occupied by Qian and her associates in 2018, investigators discovered Bitcoin wallets containing a substantial quantity of the cryptocurrency. Despite these early findings, Qian's eventual arrest didn't occur until April 2024.
A Life of Luxury and Deception
For years, Qian lived under a false name in York, harboring a team of four Malaysian nationals who were illegally employed as her domestic staff. At the time of her apprehension, she was found to be in possession of over £60 million across four cryptocurrency wallets, alongside a cache of counterfeit passports and cash. Her personal cryptocurrency holdings alone were immense, estimated at over 61,000 Bitcoin, a fortune that, as of September 2024, was valued in excess of £5.5 billion. Other members of Qian's network have also faced legal repercussions; her assistant, Jian Wen, was previously sentenced to 6 years and 8 months imprisonment last year.
Evading Justice and Living Lavishly
Qian had actively sought to avoid extradition, fearing potential transfer to countries with extradition agreements with China. This fear even led her to prohibit her staff from using technology from Chinese companies like Huawei and Xiaomi, a testament to her paranoia. Her considerable wealth was not only amassed through illicit means but also spectacularly spent on a lavish lifestyle. Purchases included designer jewelry and apparel from Harrods, with one receipt alone totaling £92,000. Her opulent lifestyle also extended to international travel, with stays at prestigious hotels such as the Ritz Carlton in Berlin.
