In a move that defies conventional PC building wisdom, a prominent YouTuber known for their audacious hardware modifications has once again pushed the boundaries of what’s possible. This time, the subject of their “because I can” project is an NVIDIA RTX 2060, which has been fitted with an utterly bizarre cooling solution: not one, but two behemoth dual-tower CPU coolers. The result? A dramatic temperature reduction of a whopping 35°C, turning a once warm GPU into a remarkably cool specimen.
From Warm to Wonderful: A Gradual Descent into Cooler Operation
The humble ASUS DUAL GeForce RTX 2060, typically hovering around a concerning 74°C on its GPU core and a scalding 92°C on its hotspot after just ten minutes of the demanding Unigine Heaven benchmark, has undergone a radical transformation. This experimental cooling setup, while certainly not destined for any standard PC case, proves that ingenuity can unlock incredible thermal performance. The journey to this remarkable outcome was a staged one, revealing the incremental benefits of each mod.


The initial steps involved minor tweaks to the GPU's rear shroud. The addition of small heatsinks to the backplate offered a slight reprieve, bringing the temperatures down to a more palatable 73°C and 90°C respectively. Removing the shroud altogether, exposing the bare PCB and integrating additional heatsinks paired with a fan, further improved the situation, achieving 69°C and 91°C for the GPU and hotspot. The inclusion of a conventional side-mounted case fan contributed further, nudging the figures down to 64°C and 82°C.
The Double-Tower Triumph: A CPU Cooler’s Unexpected Second Life
However, the true revelation came when the modder deployed not one, but two substantial dual-tower CPU air coolers. Positioned ingeniously on either side of the graphics card, these behemoths worked in tandem to dissipate heat with astonishing efficiency. With a single CPU cooler installed, the RTX 2060's temperatures plummeted to an impressive 47°C (GPU) and 61°C (hotspot). But the grand finale, featuring both dual-tower coolers, delivered the ultimate chill: a mere 43°C on the GPU core and a fantastic 57°C on the hotspot.
