A Heartwarming Act of Kindness: Metro Developers Gift a Gaming Laptop to a 78-Year-Old Evacuee

In a touching display of compassion, the developers behind the acclaimed Metro video game series, 4A Games, have gifted a powerful gaming laptop to Lyudmila Kulakova, a 78-year-old gamer who was forced to flee her home in Donbas. This heartwarming gesture came after an initial report by "Suspilne" shed light on her enduring passion for gaming despite her difficult circumstances.

A Gamer's Resilience Amidst Adversity

Lyudmila Kulakova, a resident of Belozersky for fifty years, has been an avid computer gamer for 17 of her 78 years, a hobby introduced to her by her grandson. Even in her dreams, the desire to play persisted after her evacuation from Donbas in August. Currently residing in a temporary social facility in the Kirovohrad region, sharing a room with two other women, she deeply missed her beloved pastime. The thought of playing Metro Exodus even visited her in her sleep, alongside her fondness for Counter-Strike.

“Every game has its own tactics. I invent them myself, I calculate by the second where I can make a shot, where I can’t, where it’s better to stay silent at all. Many do it wrong, throw a flashbang grenade. All done – you’ve given yourself away,” Lyudmila shared, revealing a keen strategic mind that transcends age and circumstance.

Her insightful approach to gaming, emphasizing stealth and tactical precision over brute force, showcases a deep understanding of gameplay mechanics. This nuanced perspective highlights that the appeal of gaming isn't limited by age, but rather by the engagement it offers to the mind.

From Report to Reality: A Dream Fulfilled

The initial report by "Suspilne" about Lyudmila's situation resonated deeply with the team at 4A Games. Moved by her story and her love for their games, they decided to provide her with the means to continue her passion. The gifted laptop is described by Lyudmila as a high-performance machine, noting its impressive Ryzen 9 processor, a component not commonly found in every system.

“She mentioned that her favorite game is by Ukrainian developers, from the Metro series. Ms. Lyudmila had a dream, a gaming laptop. The developers heard and saw, were touched, and decided to make such a gift for Ms. Lyudmila,” explained Olga Vladimirova, a representative from the "Vostok SOS" foundation, who facilitated the laptop's delivery to Lyudmila through an evacuation service.

Looking Ahead: Hope and Continued Support

The generosity didn't stop with the laptop. Following the initial report, compassionate individuals contributed donations for Lyudmila. While she now has a powerful gaming setup, she still requires a pair of headphones and a few other items, a need that the "Vostok SOS" foundation has pledged to address. Beyond the virtual worlds of gaming, Lyudmila's deepest desire remains the cessation of the war, with the ultimate dream of returning to her hometown.

This story serves as a powerful reminder of the human connection that can be fostered through shared interests and the profound impact of kindness, especially in times of hardship. It underscores how technology, and by extension, the gaming industry, can be a source of solace, entertainment, and even bridge-building across generations and challenging situations.
