The Mini PC Revolution: Olares and Thunderobot Unveil RTX 5090 Powerhouses in Mac Mini and Console Form Factors

Unleashing Desktop Dominance in Pocket-Sized Packages

In a move that’s set to redefine the landscape of high-performance computing, Olares and Thunderobot have jointly introduced two groundbreaking compact PCs. These aren't your average small-form-factor machines; they're veritable titans of power, meticulously engineered for the discerning gamer, the demanding content creator, and anyone who craves raw performance without the bulk of a traditional tower. At their core lies the formidable NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, a mobile marvel capable of handling the most graphically intensive tasks, paired with the potent Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, a chip typically found gracing the internals of top-tier gaming laptops.

Olares has unveiled the Olares One, a strikingly compact desktop PC that boasts a mere 3.5-liter chassis. This diminutive powerhouse is, in essence, a mobile workstation that punches far above its weight. It integrates the cutting-edge GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, armed with a colossal 24GB of GDDR7 memory and capable of a staggering 175W TGP, translating to an astonishing 1824 AI TOPS. Complementing this graphical prowess is the 24-core Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, which can reach clock speeds of up to 5.4 GHz and features a 36MB cache. The Olares One is further equipped with a generous 96GB of DDR5-5600 RAM (configured as 2x48GB modules) and a speedy 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for lightning-fast storage access. Connectivity is equally impressive, offering Thunderbolt 5, HDMI 2.1, USB-A ports, 2.5 GbE networking, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. Powering this compact beast is a 330W external power supply, and the entire unit weighs a manageable 2.15 kg (3.1 kg with the PSU). Olares has engineered an advanced cooling system, featuring a 2.8mm vapor chamber, copper radiators, and dual 54-blade fans. The company claims an impressively low noise level of just 38.8 dB under full load, with component temperatures hovering around a cool 46°C. Intriguingly, the Olares One runs on Olares OS, its own open-source Linux platform, complete with a proprietary app store and a Kubernetes-based backend. It boasts robust support for popular AI tools like ComfyUI and Open WebUI, and even allows for Windows application execution through compatible compatibility layers. The product is slated for a December crowdfunding launch, with an anticipated price tag of $2999. Early birds can secure their spot with a $50 deposit, which will be credited towards their Kickstarter pledge, offering a $200 cashback incentive. A formal debut is scheduled for CES 2026.

Thunderobot MIX G2: Console-Sized Powerhouse

Thunderobot is entering the fray with the MIX G2, a gaming-focused mini-PC that occupies a mere 3.2 liters of space. This machine mirrors the Olares One in its strategic pairing of the Core Ultra HX processor and the RTX 50 Laptop GPU. The top-tier configuration features the Core Ultra 9 275HX, the RTX 5090 Laptop, 64GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. The system's power consumption can reach up to 230W (120W for the CPU and 175W for the GPU). Measuring 332x212x45mm, the MIX G2 houses the 'Night Owl' cooling system, which includes dual fans, a unified heatsink, and distinctive aesthetic touches like signature blue lighting and a triangular power button. The motherboard supports two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and two M.2 PCIe slots (one 5.0 and one 4.0), offering excellent upgrade potential. For connectivity, users will find Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Thunderbolt 5, HDMI 2.1, and a 10-gigabit USB-A port. Sales are set to commence in China on November 20th with the following pricing structure:

  • RTX 5090 + 64GB RAM + 1TB SSD: 26,999 yuan ($3,790)
  • RTX 5080 + 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD: 18,999 yuan ($2,670)
  • RTX 5070 Ti + 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD: 14,999 yuan ($2,110)

Despite government subsidies, these prices remain on the higher side of the market; notebooks with comparable specifications are generally $700-$800 less expensive, even before factoring in import duties. Consequently, the Olares One and Thunderobot MIX G2 exemplify a compelling new trend: the migration of desktop computing power away from bulky towers towards compact, book-sized solutions that house flagship-level GPUs and CPUs. However, their current premium pricing positions them as niche products rather than mass-market contenders. For enthusiasts and content creators, though, these machines offer an unparalleled opportunity to own a full-fledged AI or gaming station that can be discreetly placed almost anywhere.
