Vivo X300 and X300 Pro Land in Europe: Premium Pricing and Compromised Batteries

Just weeks after their initial unveiling in China, Vivo has officially launched its highly anticipated X300 and X300 Pro flagship smartphones for the European market. These devices arrive with promises of cutting-edge technology, including an advanced chipset and sophisticated camera systems, but at a premium price point and with certain concessions compared to their Chinese counterparts.

Display and Design: A Feast for the Eyes, Built Responsibly

Both the X300 and X300 Pro boast stunning 8T LTPO AMOLED displays, featuring an adaptive refresh rate that gracefully shifts from 1Hz to 120Hz to conserve power. With a peak brightness reaching an impressive 4500 nits, outdoor visibility should be exceptional. The X300 sports a more compact 6.31-inch screen (2640x1216 pixels), while the Pro model expands to a larger 6.78-inch display (2800x1260 pixels). Beyond the visual allure, these phones are built with sustainability in mind, incorporating 30% recycled glass and 20% recycled aluminum into their chassis. Durability is further enhanced by IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner provides seamless security. The X300 is remarkably svelte at 7.95mm and 190g, whereas the X300 Pro is slightly thicker at 7.99mm and heftier at 226g.

Performance Powerhouse and Imaging Prowess

Under the hood, both devices are powered by the formidable 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, promising blistering performance for demanding applications and gaming. The X300 Pro elevates its imaging capabilities further with the integration of a dedicated Vivo V3 image processing chip, designed to enhance computational photography. Memory configurations are generous, with LPDDR5X RAM paired with UFS 4.1 storage. The Vivo X300 is available in 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB options, while the X300 Pro comes exclusively in a 16GB/512GB variant.

Battery and Charging: A European Tweak

A notable divergence between the European and Chinese versions of the X300 and X300 Pro lies in their battery capacity. Driven by certification requirements, European models feature smaller batteries: 5360 mAh for the X300 (down from 6040 mAh) and 5440 mAh for the X300 Pro (down from 6510 mAh). Despite this reduction, both smartphones support blazing-fast 90W wired charging and a respectable 40W wireless charging. However, the reverse wireless charging functionality has been omitted from the global release.

Camera Systems: Versatile and Feature-Rich

The camera setups are a significant highlight. The Vivo X300 features a colossal 200MP Samsung HPB main sensor (1/1.4-inch, f/1.68), complemented by a 50MP Sony LYT-602 APO telephoto lens (1/1.95-inch) and a 50MP ultrawide module utilizing a Samsung JN1 sensor. The X300 Pro steps up with a larger 50MP Sony LYT-828 main sensor (1/1.28-inch) with a wide f/1.57 aperture and optical image stabilization. It also includes a 50MP Samsung JN1 ultrawide and a impressive 200MP Samsung HPB sensor for its telephoto capabilities. Both models share a 50MP Samsung JN1 front-facing camera for selfies.

Software and Pricing: The Cost of Innovation

For the first time globally, Vivo is rolling out its proprietary OriginOS 6, built upon Android 16. The company is backing its commitment to longevity with an impressive promise of five years of OS updates and seven years of security patches. The Vivo X300 is available in Phantom Black and Halo Pink. Pricing starts at €1049 for the 12GB/256GB model, with the 16GB/512GB variant costing €1099. The flagship Vivo X300 Pro, in Phantom Black and Dune Brown, comes with a hefty price tag of €1399 for its sole 16GB/512GB configuration. Additionally, Vivo is offering photography enthusiasts the Telephoto Extender Kit for €399 and the PGYTECH Imaging Grip Kit for €199.
